Zinedine Zidane Recommends Lille’s Eden Hazard To Real Madrid

He might not be a confirmed member of Florentino Perez's Real Madrid team yet, but Zinedine Zidane has today recommended a player for the Spanish club to sign: Eden Hazard.

The Belgian international is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Europe at the moment and is currently plying his trade with Lille in France.

This season he has been named as the best young player in Ligue 1 and is capable of playing on the wings or in the centre of midfield.

His talent and versatility have reportedly earned him interest from Barcelona and Arsenal, however, now Zidane has recommended him to Madrid.

Speaking to De Morgen, the French legend said, "I would take Hazard to Madrid with my eyes closed."

Whether or not Perez and the new regime at Madrid will be interested in players with a relatively low-profile such as Hazard is doubtful, but there is no questioning that he is a dangerous player at his best.

This season he has put in some superb display in Ligue 1 and is unlikely to cost Madrid too much if they do decide to sign him.

Perez is set to take over as president of the Spanish club on June 1, after the last potential candidate, Eduardo Garcia, failed to provide the guarantee needed to run.

Mobile labs to make science fun in Jakarta

Students in Greater Jakarta will get their first chance at learning and practicing science and computers, after the North Jakarta administration launched mobile laboratories Tuesday.

The students can also get medical checkups at a mobile clinic, which is scheduled to visit schools around Greater Jakarta over the next year, along with two other vans outfitted as a science lab and computer lab.

The three mobile labs will serve elementary, middle and high schools in Greater Jakarta that have limited lab facilities or none at all.

North Jakarta Deputy Mayor Atma Senjaya said during the launch that in the initial phase of the program, the mobile labs would reach several schools in the municipality that had limited facilities.

Ester Yunita, one of the program coordinators, said the program would visit one school each week.

“The computer and science mobile labs will stay at each school from Monday to Thursday to teach the students basic computer skills and assist them in natural science practicals,” she said.

“We will also provide dental and physical checkups, as we have a general practitioner and dentist volunteering in the mobile health clinic.”

While the science and computer labs will stay at each school for four days, the mobile clinic will drive around the school’s neighborhood to provide free health services for low-income residents, Ester added.

She said the program involved two computer teachers subjects, three science teachers, one general practitioner, one dentist and one pharmacist.

After going around North Jakarta, the mobile labs will visit schools in Central Jakarta, East Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi.

They will also reach schools outside Greater Jakarta, under the program managed by Obor Indonesia Foundation, Mitra Mandiri Foundation and PT BMW Indonesia.

In the mobile computer lab, students are taught basic computing skills on 10 laptops. This lab is also equipped with an Internet connection and 32-inch flat-screen TV to aid the learning process.

The science lab provides standard facilities for biology, physics and chemistry practicals, including microscopes and test tubes, where students can learn basic practices such as observing objects with microscopes and measuring volumes.

The program is expected to boost interest and understanding in learning science through practical in the mobile lab, as most students consider it a difficult and boring subject.

Telkom opens mobile network on Nipah

Marines stationed at Nipah Island in the Riau Islands province will finally be able to contact their loved ones with ease afterstate telecommunication firm PT Telkom launched a cellular phone network at the remote location Wednesday.

Telkom's Flexi CDMA network is replacing existing coverage, provided by Malaysian and Singaporean telco firms, which was significantly more expensive.

Batam Vice Mayor Ria Saptarika welcomed the introduction of the telecommunication network on Nipah Island, which falls under the Batam city administration.

"This is a real effort to protect and reclaim Nipah Island," she said.

"Our telecommunication network should remain protected from foreign companies."

Nipah Island has seen significant dredging in past years for its sand, which was sent to Singapore to help with redevelopment. In a move to help reclaim the former glory of Nipah, the island was restored through a seven-stage process in 2004 from an area just two hectares in size to 60 hectares.

PT Telkom executive general manager for the Sumatra regional division, Muhammad Awaluddin, said the Flexi CDMA network on Nipah Island was part of its commitment to build telecommunication infrastructure in outlying areas.

Currently three remote islands around Sumatra have been connected to the Telkom network, including Rondo Island, just north of Weh Island in Aceh, and Berhala Island in the Malacca Straits.

The requirement for such infrastructure on Sekatung Island in the South China Sea is still being evaluated, as there are no marines stationed there.

The telecommunication network is prioritizing the development of communication technologies in remote areas occupied by Indonesian Navy personnel guarding the nations borders.

"We have to provide telecommunication networks to the outlying islands," said Awaluddin.

"This is part of our corporate social responsibility. These projects are being financed outside our normal business calculations."

Awaluddin said there were currently 12 islands in Indonesia on which PT Telkom is planning on developing telecommunication infrastructure. The facilities will not only include voice communications but also data and video services.

These particular islands determine Indonesia's borders with neighboring countries. According to Presidential Regulation No. 78/2005 on the Management of Outlying and Remote Islands, there is a total of 92 outlying islands across Indonesia's border areas.

First Pvt. Deny A, from the Indonesian Marines, said before the introduction of the Telkom network, troops were able to use their handphones but had to source out network coverage manually.

"Sometimes we had to climb our radio tower to get networkcoverage from Indonesian telco providers such as Indosat or Telkomsel, but Singapore's SingTel and Malaysia's Maxis had strong coverage."

Bali recieves Rp 10.8b fund to fight infectious diseases

DENPASAR: The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) has allocated Rp 10.8 billion (US$1.4 million) to assist several institutions in Bali to fight deadly infectious diseases.

The assistance is part of a Rp 438 billion financial assistance package provided by the international organization to Indonesia from 2011 to 2014.

The GFATM was initiated by former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan and is supported by eight countries.

The fund will be distributed to several local institutions, including the Bali AIDS Commission (KPA), the Bali Health Agency and the Bali branch of the Indonesian Planned Parenthood Association (PKBI).

These institutions will receive Rp 2.84 billion, Rp 5.03 billion and Rp 2.99 billion respectively.

These institutions will use the money to finance disease prevention and mitigation programs in Denpasar and Badung, Buleleng and Bangli regencies.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the fund disbursement was signed in Denpasar on Wednesday by the secretary of the National AIDS Commission (KPA), Nafsiah Mboi, and Bali Vice Governor A.A. Puspayoga.

"The number of HIV/AIDS cases in Bali has increased significantly," Puspayoga said.

"It seems there is something wrong with our method of dealing with this disease. We need to devise new strategies."

March figures show the number of people with HIV/AIDS in Bali reached 2,660 and more than half of that number are aged between 20 and 29 years.

Barcelona Beat Manchester United To Win Champions League

Barcelona have won the Champions League at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, beating last year's winners Manchester United by two goals.

Barcelona 2-0 Manchester United

Players from both sides won their fitness battles to make the starting line-ups: Andres Iniesta and Thierry Henry for Barcelona, and Rio Ferdinand for Manchester United.

Otherwise, Sylvinho played in defence for the Catalan giants, with Sergi Busquets also starting. United made one change from the semi-finals: Ryan Giggs in for the suspended Darren Fletcher, with Park Ji-Sung again involved.

First Half

Manchester United, playing in white, made a positive start, with Anderson winning a free kick from Toure Yaya. Cristiano Ronaldo's ensuing delivery swerved low into the body of Victor Valdes and bounced clear, and the onrushing Park might have finished were it not for a strong block by Gerard Pique.

After six minutes, Ronaldo picked up the ball in space, drove forward and let fly from 40-yards, hitting wide of Valdes' left-hand post. Less than two minutes later, in space on the left of the area, the Portuguese powerhouse was able to pluck the ball out of the air with his chest and slash a shot wide of the far post.

For all that, Barcelona opened the scoring before ten minutes were on the clock. Iniesta pulled the strings as the Blaugrana probed United for the first time, releasing a killer pass. Samuel Eto'o then evaded Nemanja Vidic with ease and poked under the body of Edwin van der Sar, before wheeling away to celebrate emotionally.

Still, the Barca rearguard continued to look a little nervy, and Ronaldo was able to test it again after being released by Ryan Giggs. However, Pique body-checked him 25-yards from goal and was shown the game's first first yellow card.

Lionel Messi had his first crack at the other end, after 19 minutes, but his swerving drive was just high and wide.

At the other end, it was clear that Ballon d'Or holder Ronaldo was trying to do it all himself in the final third. He squirmed away from Toure Yaya, but his shot trundled wide of the same post again.

From then on, the pattern of play many had expected from the start began to manifest itself: Barcelona keeping possession in spells and United working very hard to quash their many threats, whilst struggling to make headway.

Chances were limited. Xavi went close with a free kick attempt, but generally the United defence were doing just enough to repel the waves of pressure.

With the interval approaching, Messi did finally get his head down and pierce the opposition back-line, with Van der Sar spilling his eventual low cross.

Second Half

Sir Alex Ferguson had clearly noticed that Anderson had looked lost at times, not least in the build-up to the goal, thus he was hooked for Carlos Tevez.

The Red Devils started with energy, but the cooler heads of Barcelona fashioned an early opportunity. Iniesta picked out runner Henry from deep and, after cutting in from the left, the Frenchman's placed effort was blocked by Van der Sar.

Their hunger to win the 50-50 balls was evident, too, and soon Eto'o was clipping a ball to Messi at the far post. The Argentine was close to connecting, then appealed in vain for a penalty after feeling the presence of John O'Shea.

The pressure continued. Iniesta drove into the heart of United's defence and won a free kick just outside the area. Xavi stepped up to curl the free-kick round the wall, smacking the right-hand post.

United did stabilise eventually, and had a half-chance of their own. Wayne Rooney crossed from the right and Toure Yaya got just enough on the ball to take it away from Ronaldo and Tevez.

On the hour mark, Michael Carrick looked to play in Rooney again, but he overcooked his pass, much to the frustration of the burly forward.

Dimitar Berbatov came on for Park, and for a short spell United looked more purposeful. Just as they were building a head of steam, though, Barca hit them with a sucker punch.

Carles Puyol made a key interception on the half-way line, and back-pedalling United were never able to clear. Xavi then hung up a delicious cross for Messi, who headed back across goal from the left, leaving the 'keeper flailing as the ball nestled in the net.

Manchester United almost replied immediately. Tevez played across the face of goal from the right, only for Giggs to scuff an effort and Ronaldo to be blocked out by Valdes at the back post.

On-song Puyol rose to head powerfully into the arms of the 'keeper shortly after, but then United's frustration surfaced. Ronaldo's challenge on the aforementioned Barca captain and substitute Paul Scholes' late slide on Busquets were both met with yellow cards.

In the last ten minutes there were more near misses for the Spanish side; Iniesta and Puyol forced Van der Sar to think quickly in order to make two good stops.

Thus it finished, and Barcelona are the Champions League winners 2008-09.

SBY, Kalla busy seeking support for election

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Jusuf Kalla have been busy travelling and meeting groups of people across the country in the last several weeks, leaving the capital “empty”.

With a full travel schedule on the agenda for both leaders over the next few months, concerns have been raised over whether they can still perform state tasks during the administration’s last five months.

On Sunday, President SBY and his wife Ani Yudhoyono made a surprise visit to the Sukawati market in Bali, the island’s largest trading site for handicrafts and souvenirs.

During their one-hour visit, both traders and visitors were competing with each other to get the first glimpse at the couple and trying to shake hands with the president.

“Since yesterday, I have visited places like this, such as Tampaksiring and Kintamani. The number of tourists has increased. We should maintain this condition so the economy will keep moving and the people’s earning swill keep increasing,” said SBY, who was in Bali since Saturday after touring Surabaya.

SBY and his running mate former Bank Indonesia Boediono have declared their bid for the presidency.

Earlier, rival presidential candidate Kalla made a series of visits to traditional markets, including Tanah Abang in the central Jakarta.

Since declaring their bid for presidency, SBY and Kalla are said to have not communicated or attended cabinet meetings together.

Kalla, who is also chairman of the Golkar party, participated in many activities over the weekend in order to meet thousands of people, from ordinary citizens to politicians.

Kalla inaugurated the launching of Grand Mangku Putra Hotel in Cilegon, Banten on Sunday. Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah is among the high-ranking officials attending the launching.

After the launching, Kalla accompanied by his vice presidential hopeful Wiranto to meet Muslim clerics, local people and members of the Golkar party in Cilegon.

The clerics and the local people read out declarations supporting Kalla and Wiranto in the presidential election.

In his speech, Kalla promised to improve the people’s welfare and make Indonesia an internationally respected country if he was elected as president.

The tour to Cilegon was made after Kalla received support from the Ulema National Awakening Party (PKNU) and Federation of Transport Workers in Indonesia on Sunday.

“I promise a better government. The people’s mandate must be fulfilled by a fair, honest and dignified government,” Kalla said at the PKNU’s leader meeting Sunday.

On Saturday, Kalla also inaugurated his winning team consisting of 100 women of the party’s member to garner support from female voters.

Both Kalla and Wiranto, however, strongly denied the intensive meeting was part of their early campaigning for the presidential election.

“This is not part of the campaign, it is merely a bond of friendship,” Wiranto said.

The presidential election will be held in July 8 with three contestants — SBY, Kalla and Megawati Soekarnoputri — to compete in the election.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) planned to push forward the start of election campaign to May 30, from the initially scheduled June 13.

Maldini Plays Last Ever Home Match In Loss To Roma

Offenses were clearly on top as Roma beat Milan 3-2 in Paolo Maldini's San Siro farewell.

Milan 2-3 Roma

Pre-Match News

Mathieu Flamini and David Beckham were restored to the line-up after returning to the match as the Rossoneri wore special jerseys to honour Paolo Maldini in his final home match.

Meanwhile, Juan returned to the centre of the defence for Roma and Marco Cassetti was deployed on the right of midfield.

First Half

The first chance fell to the visitors as Mirko Vucinic's through ball left Flamini for dead and Rodrigo Taddei's shot was cleared by a kick save from Nelson Dida.

The match continued without many real chances until 20 minutes, when Inzaghi was called offside on what looked like a very close decision when he would've been one-on-one with Artur. Vucinic then skinned Giuseppe Favalli down the left, but Andrea Pirlo and Maldini shut him down before he could pull the trigger.

Beckham played one of his trademark long raking passes, but Pato's first touch let him down and Artur collected. Matteo Brighi played a give-and-go with captain Francesco Totti and fired just wide as the match began to open up and take on a higher tempo.

This time, the English international found Pato on the counter and Artur made an excellent save getting down to block the Brazilian starlet's low drive.

The Giallorossi took the lead through a vintage goal by John Arne Riise. A freekick was played short for the Norwegian on the edge of the box to hammer it in the top corner!

The home side had Artur scrambling, but Pato's vicious volley was cleared by the head of Motta too keep Roma in the lead on the verge of half-time.

Second Half

To begin the second half Carlo Ancelotti made a change subbing off Beckham for Clarence Seedorf in order to find a way back into the match.

The Dutchman's impact was immediate as he played in Pippo Inzaghi, the Italian was tapped by the trailing leg of Juan, but there was no penalty as Artur was already in the process of picking up the ball.

'Carletto' then used his remaining substitutions, bringing in Ronaldinho and Gianluca Zambrotta for Jankulovski and Pato. Pirlo nearly found an equalizer after Artur punched a Zambrotta cross clear, but Pirlo's one-timer from just outside the area was wayward.

Milan were coming closer and closer to an equaliser, as Kaka whipped in a low ball that Seedorf just failed to redirect into the net from a close position.

Artur then made a string of strong saves on 65', first finger tipping Kaka curling effort and then knocking Massimo Ambrosini's header away.

The Rossoneri finally found their sought after goal on 74 minutes. Kaka flew down the right and found Inzaghi, whose volley was parried away into the path of the onrushing Ambrosini to level the scores at 1-1.

Substitute Jeremy Menez nearly restored the lead as he waltzed into the box, but was eventually blocked by Giuseppe Favalli as he was about to pull the trigger.

Menez then did put the Giallorossi back in front on the counter attack! Riise and the Frenchman combined well and the player burst past the Rossoneri defence and slipped his low effort under Dida.

It didn't last long, as Seedorf put the ball wide for Kaka and the Brazilian international's cross left Artur stranded for Ambrosini to grab his second of the match.

Totti had been largely disappointing thus far, but his powerful freekick earned Roma the lead once more as it flew into the side netting.

Zambrotta had a was asking for a penalty with just a couple minutes remaining, although there was minimal contact,. It was not given and Ambrosini took his protests too far and was sent off by the referee.

One of Maldini's final contributions was blocking a shot for Roma and the Rossoneri captain looked disappointed as the referee blew the final whistle.
